Sourcing steel radiators for a residential development: what project buyers in Europe and Central Asia plan for

Fitting out a residential development is a different exercise from buying radiators for a single home. A project buyer — a developer, a main contractor or an HVAC subcontractor — is committing to hundreds of identical units that have to arrive on time, match across every apartment, and satisfy whoever signs off the building. Written from the factory floor, this guide walks through what matters when you source steel panel and column radiators for a project across Europe, Russia and Central Asia, from the first heat-loss figures to the spare units you keep on the shelf.

Start with a heat-loss calculation, room by room

The specification begins before any product is chosen. Each apartment type should have a room-by-room heat loss worked out for the local design temperature, and the radiator output sized to it — not copied from a brochure. In cold-climate markets that difference is decisive: a unit sized for a mild winter will leave rooms cold in Astana or Novosibirsk. Fix the required output first, then choose the height and length that fit the wall and the under-window space. Our note on calculating radiator output per room sets out a method a project can standardize on.

Standardize on one supplier and one batch

Across a whole building, consistency is worth more than shaving a little off any single unit. Ordering panel and column radiators from one manufacturer — formed and welded on the same lines and finished in the same process — means every apartment gets the same color, the same connection layout and the same quality, and reorders for later phases match the first. Mixing suppliers to save on price usually costs more later in mismatched finishes, odd connection centers and inconsistent output. Decide the range early and hold to it.

Align delivery with the construction schedule

On a project the radiators do not arrive when a catalog says; they arrive when the site is ready for them. Agree a realistic lead time and a delivery schedule tied to your build phases, so units are not sitting on a wet site for months or, worse, holding up second fix. Talk to the manufacturer early about production time, packing for the journey, and phased shipments if the development is handed over in stages. Settle the timing before the order, not after.

Get the documentation the project will be checked against

Project sign-off depends on paperwork as much as on product. For the European market that means a CPR Declaration of Performance and EN 442 performance data — see our explainer on EN 442 ΔT50 / ΔT30 for how to read the figures you will be quoted. For Russia and Central Asia the relevant benchmark is GOST; our note on GOST for steel radiators covers what buyers there should ask to see. Request the documents that apply to your market up front and file them with the project record — retrofitting paperwork after delivery is far harder. Our Credentials page lists what we hold.

Order spares and keep the specification on file

When the last apartment is handed over, keep a small stock of spare units and the exact specification — model, height, length, connection type and color — on file. Buildings need the occasional replacement after handover, and a matching spare from the same range avoids an obvious mismatch on the wall. A supplier who keeps a consistent range over time makes that easy years down the line. For current specifications and documentation see our Products and FAQ pages.
